Microsoft Whiteboard

Microsoft Whiteboard is an app that can be found in your AACPS OneDrive/Office 365 account. When you click on OneDrive from Classlink, you want to select your “waffle” in the upper left corner. If the app doesn’t appear in the pop-out menu, select more apps and scroll down as all apps are listed alphabetically in the full list.

Nearpod Collaborate


Collaborate is an interactive board, great for class discussions and brainstorming. It can be added as a component of a larger Nearpod lesson, or done as a standalone activity from the Quick Launch menu. It can also be delivered to students in a self-paced lesson, like for homework, or in a live, teacher-paced lesson.

Lumio Shout It Out!


Shout It Out is an interactive board, great for class discussions and brainstorming. It can be added as a component of a larger Lumio lesson, or done as a standalone activity. It can only be delivered to students in a live, teacher-paced lesson because the teacher must click Start on the activity page before students can contribute.

Team Template in Wixie


While we love Wixie, you might not think of it as a collaborative tool, but team projects make it one of our best, most-comparable replacements for Jamboard. A teacher opens a template, and while in the editor’s view, they can choose Team in the upper right. They can choose any of their classes and add any students, or all students to the team. When students open the project, they can collaborate in real-time using any tools their teacher includes with the template.

It’s one of those current, hot educational phrases that leaves most teachers scratching their heads and thinking, “Does this really apply to me?” Especially when most articles and books stress its relationship and importance to computer science.  However, the more I read, the more I’m convinced that computational thinking extends to all content at all grade levels. After all, at its most basic, computational thinking is all about the process of problem solving.
