New Spring Digital Activities

While spring break may have just ended, the season has really just begun! It's time for new growth, gentle rain, flowers, baby animals, and that warm weather we have all been dreaming of. 


Along with the new season comes some new ideas on our OIT Digital Take-Out site. The site accessible from Classlink, in the orange Instructional Tech Resources folder. Under the Seasonal Activities tab, you will find dozens of curated digital activities for all seasons. Here I will highlight a few of my favorites:



Spring Cinquain Poem:
This Wixie project template has students write a 5 line poem about spring using adjectives, nouns, and verbs. Don't forget the image library, and video elements of Wixie to have student decorate their creations and record themselves reciting the poem.



National Scrabble Day:
April 13th is National Scrabble Day. Have some fun with students by using this digital Scrabble board in Google Drawings. Consider giving students a word bank or images to from your content area to inspire creativity in forming words.



Discovery Education Bonkers Baseball:
This Discovery Education Studio activity is a part of a series from Outrageous Acts of Science. It's up to students to decide if the activity in the video is fact or fake. Students need to use evidence and reasoning to support their claim in this redbound CER.





Test Taking Strategy Lumio:
This Lumio lesson helps builds students' test taking confidence and preparedness by reviewing strategies with interactive elements and gamification.



Not New, But Really Fun... Spring Virtual Field Trips:
This Google Slidedeck has over 10 field trips ranging from Earth's changing climate to spring holiday traditions, to a visit to the Cherry Blossoms!

Computational Thinking: Its really not that scary!

It’s one of those current, hot educational phrases that leaves most teachers scratching their heads and thinking, “Does this really apply to me?” Especially when most articles and books stress its relationship and importance to computer science.  However, the more I read, the more I’m convinced that computational thinking extends to all content at all grade levels. After all, at its most basic, computational thinking is all about the process of problem solving. Who to Follow on Social Media

There are several ways, but one of our favorite ways is to peruse Twitter when we have a moment. This allows us to get information from one place and in the small snippets of time- and it doesn’t fill up our inboxes! If you are on Twitter and looking for people to follow, here are a few that we recommend. It’s no secret that OIT supports a variety of instructional applications and yes, sometimes it can feel overwhelming! But, many of the programs we subscribe to are active on Twitter.
